The honesty taxonomy

Three kinds, stated plainly

Every piece carries one of three kinds, and its page says which. A reproduction is faithful — a public-domain work of antiquity or the pre-1931 canon, printed straight. A treatment is a house transformation of a NAMED public-domain work; the source is credited, because naming what we honour is the honour. An original is a contemporary work of the atelier — dated, numbered, and claiming no historical provenance at all.

The line that states this renders on every product page, without exception. It is not marketing; it is the first thing the piece owes you.

The Edition Ledger

Scarcity you can count

Treatments and originals are numbered. The ledger is append-only: every sale writes one immutable entry and mints one certificate — the piece, its number, the date, and its honesty line, frozen at the moment of sale.

The ledger refuses a sale past N. It is not a marketing cap that can be quietly raised; it is a structural one, enforced at payment and backed by a unique constraint on the registry so the same edition number can never be sold twice.

The Mark Doctrine

Inspired by the category, never the house

Wine is the most litigious luxury category there is. No real producer name, label, trade dress, bottle-identifying mark, or protected appellation styled as a genuine claim appears anywhere on this site — not in a title, a slug, a piece of copy, or a paid keyword. A denylist lints for it, and a human registrar reviews every invented label before it reaches the catalogue.

The invented houses of Vin Fou wear heraldry the atelier drew from nothing. Read them as inventions, because they are.

The seatbelts

Insane risks, non-negotiable seatbelts

The gallery takes real risks with motion and colour. It never takes one with your safety. NO STROBE, NO FLASH, EVER — nothing on screen changes faster than a fraction of a hertz; the psychedelia is slow morph and chromatic bloom, never a flicker (WCAG 2.3.1).

If your device asks for reduced motion, you get a fully art-directed still with complete content parity — every word and link, none of the movement. The site tiers itself silently to your hardware, always renders a complete page if scripting fails, and turns sober at the cart: from checkout onward it is a plain, conventional shop.

We sell art, not wine

No age gate on a print

Wine is taken here as subject — the oldest intoxication in art — and never sold. No piece is a beverage, an endorsement, or an affiliation, and no print is age-gated. What you buy is a picture.
